An Expedition into the Future of Learning at Work
What is the nature of learning in the digital enterprise – and what role will YOU play in it? Join us for an immersive learning event – imagining, experiencing and creating a new future of learning for your organization:
During the Imagining phase you will be challenged to break free from your default thinking and limiting assumptions about learning.
During the Experiencing phase you will be immersed into environments where breakthrough technologies such as simulations, VR and AI are being leveraged to forever alter the way we live, work and learn.
- During the Creating phase you will use design thinking to envision and build a prototype for the future of learning in your organization.
Check out the innovators and thought leaders who will be your guides during this exclusive learning experience that takes place at innovative sites throughout New Orleans. Our agenda is full, interactive, experiential and immersive. We'll be seeing cutting-edge examples that are already being deployed, as well as state-of-the-art technologies that are still emerging.
Innovations in Training begins Wednesday at a collaborative working space with an wine experience that asks what happens in the brain when we taste and smell wine, and introduces themes around how we perceive and learn. We'll conclude with a pop-up dinner with Black Swan, which practices cooperative economics and shows how local food fits into the tapestry of New Orleans history and culture.
Thursday kicks off with our partner from Duke Corporate Education, introducing the emerging trends and themes that training innovators need to pay attention to. Then, we will dive into the future of social and shared-space learning in our VR/AR/3D Showcase – with several New Orleans developers and Samsung – in which we explore whether we can develop empathy in VR environments, and how to apply VR and immersive technologies for the right reasons. Next, we will head to the new Maritime and Industrial Training Center to experience how to make learning engaging through simulated, real-life environments – including a tour of the Full Mission Bridge Simulator Suite that is so realistic it can make you seasick! We continue on to tour another site where we will discover how this medical school is applying simulation training, competency-based education, and evaluation to transform team performance and improve patient safety. Finally, we'll conclude the day with a culinary kick in the seat of the pants at the nation's first Center for Culinary Medicine at Tulane University, where we will debrief the day and participate in a hands-on, team-oriented cooking class in which we will actively prepare our dinner.
The Small Center for Collaborative Design
at Tulane School of Architecture will be our learning space on Friday, where we will focus on the future of work
, the mindset required for innovating training
, and design thinking
. We will learn how the US Office of Personnel Management
is creating the future of learning and work by design
through its Innovation Lab. Then, a team of facilitators from Tulane University's Taylor Center for Social Innovation and Design Thinking
will lead a human-centered design workshop
to help us prototype "what next" for the future of learning. We will conclude with a final debriefing, integration and reflection
session, which includes lunch.

TESTIMONIALS FROM INNOVATIONS IN TRAINING 2016
"In the past three days, I've felt like a kid in a candy store. This has been absolutely fantastic – all these tools and ways to use simulations and virtual environments."
Rick McNamara, Senior Manager of Instructional Design, Siemens
"I loved it! I really liked the boutique nature of this event. There was a really nice balance between low tech and high tech. There are things that I can apply tomorrow and there are things that I can build on that could change the way things work for us a year from now. It was very, very practical."
Adam Smith, Learning Partner, Alberta Treasury Branch
"I learned many angles and approaches to common training challenges. I liked the fun atmosphere – I never felt bored or tired!"
Scott Wilson, Training Program Manager, HP
"Even though we all came from different backgrounds and different industries – and we experienced things from outside of our industries – there were a lot of connections that we were able to make and apply. ... What I really liked was we were able to ask questions and collaborate throughout."
Brandon Tanguay, Learning and Development Content Developer, Vistana
"I was surprised there were so many innovative ways to train. I liked the size of the group – it helped with networking and feeling important in the group."
Jessica Lotzkar, Agent Training & Service Improvement, Capital One
"I liked everything – the tours, the discussions, the debriefs."
Monica Cornetti, Founder and CEO of The Sententia Gamification Consortium
"I liked the mix of tours and seminar. The event took me outside my comfort zone to let me experience training solutions I would never have explored on my own."
